Chapter 2: BASIC TOOLS OF ECONOMIC ANALYSIS (ELEMENTARY STATISTICS FOR ECONOMIC ANALYSIS)

D. CHARTS
  1. Pie Chart

A pie chart is a circle divided proportionally in items according to their proportions out of the total. Since a circle is 360°, the proportions are expressed in items of 360°.

The angle of the sector occupied by each item can be calculated by using the formula:

Angle=PortionTotal Portion*360°

  1. Bar Chart

It is a graph which consists of a number of rectangular bars that are arranged vertically or horizontally depending on the nature of data.

Differences between a Histogram and a Bar Chart

  1. The bars on the bar chart are spaced where as those of the histogram are not spaced.
  2. The bar chart can be drawn vertically or horizontally while the histogram can be drawn vertically only.
