Chapitre 5 :COMPUTER CRIME

Course

                 Computer crime is any illegal act that involve the computer either as a target of a crime or as a tool use in commuting the crime. When the computer is target of a criminal act, the crime is said to be a computer related crime. When it is tool use to commit the crime, the crime is referred to as a computer assisted crime.

 

 

  1. TYPES OF COMPUTER CRIMES

 

1.Phishing

Phishing is a criminally fraudulent process of acquiring or attempting to acquire sensitive information such as user names, passwords and credit card details by pretending to be a trust waidy entity I an electronic communication. The phisher sends out an email that pretends to come from a bank operation with which the victim has an account. The email message tells the victim to click on the link in other to handle some kind of urgent business. In reality, both the message and link are counter feit and the victim ends up giving their password or credit card information to the phisher or at a very list, visiting a website that disseminates malware.

 

2.Software piracy

Software piracy or copyright infringement it is the illegal reproduction of copyright or patented software for personal use, for sale or free distribution.

 

3.Malware

Malware (malicious software) is any software that could harm a computer interface with users data or make the computer to perform actions without the own knowledge or permission e.g. viruses, worms, spy wall, logic booms and Trojan horse.

 

4.Viruses

A virus is computer programs that can copy itself and effect a computer where it destroy fill and disrupt the operating of the computer. Viruses can spread from one computer to another (in some form of executable code) when its host is taken to the target of the computer.
