Chapter 3 : Rates of chemical reaction

Rate of a reaction

During a chemical reaction, the reactants are being converted to the products. Hence as time elapses the amount of reactants or its concentration drops while the amount of products or its concentration increases.

  • For some reactions, the change from reactants to products is so sudden that such reactions occur explosively. Examples of such reactions include: The reaction between hydrogen and oxygen.

  • Temperature
  • Surface area or physical state of reactants
  • Catalyst
  • Light
