Chapter 3: Polynomials

Degree of a polynomial

The degree of a polynomial p(x) is the highest power of x.

Example; write down the degrees of the following polynomials:

  1. P(x) = 3x2+x+5              (iii)    h(x) = 4-2x+5x2-x4
  2. G(x) = x3-4x2+4             (iv)     f(x) = 2

Solution

The degrees of the following polynomials are;

  1. 2      (ii)     3        (iii)     4           (iv)    0
