CHAPTER 2: FRENCH CAMEROON UNDER ANDRE MARIE NBIDA 1957-58

CAUSES OF THE FAIL OF MBIDA?S GOVERNMENT

-Mbida lost the support of the French high commissioner JEAN RAMADIER.

-Mbida rejected dialogue with the UPC. He rejected amnesty demanded by the up cists and preferred military rather than political solution to the UPC problem.

-Mbida was against immediate reunification.

-Mbida became critical of the French desire to rule Cameroon as a private Colony rather than as trusteeship territory which annoyer his French master.

-Mbida father offended the French by opening critising their treatment of Cameroonian by French employers

-Mbida was too dictatorial and very autocratic he government without the advice of his leader.

- He made the tactical error of maintaining the unpopular position that French Cameroon was not ripe for immediate independence.

-Mbida lost the support of the Assembly.
