There are two types of habitat namely; aquatic and terrestrial habitat.
- Aquatic habitat: this is water habitat and there exist two types of aquatic habitat; marine and fresh water habitat.
Example of marine water habitat: oceans and seas
Examples of fresh water habitat: rivers, streams and lake.
Examples of aquatic organisms;
- Plant e.g. lotus, water lily
- Animals e.g. fishes, insects, snails
- Mammals e.g. whales and dolphins
- Terrestrial habitat: this is the habitat on earth e.g. forest, ground farmlands. There are two types of terrestrial habitat; arboreal and subterranean.
- Arboreal habitat: this is the tree habitat e.g. tree tops, trunks of trees etc. animals in tree habitat include; monkey, snakes, birds etc.
- Subterranean habitat: these are underground like burrows, caves. Animals in underground habitat include: rats, bats, ants, earthworms, crabs etc.
Environmental factors affecting plants and animals
Many factors affect living organisms and they can be grouped into; Biotic (living factors) and Abiotic factors (non-living factors).
- The abiotic factors:
It is the form of non living part of the habitat e.g. sunlight, water, wind etc.
