There are basically three forms of marriage;
- Traditional marriage
- Religious marriage
- Ordinance marriage
- Traditional marriage:
It is the form of marriage conducted according to the customs and practices of a particular culture.
Here members of the families, friends and neighbours are invited to attend the traditional wedding ceremony in the home of the bride’s parent.
During the celebration some items are presented by the groom to the bride’s parent as a sign of seriousness, commitment and acceptance of marriage. When the bride’s parents are satisfied with the items, they declare the daughter as wife to the groom.
This ceremony is characterized by feasting, presentation of gifts, advice from elders, traditional blessings, singing and dancing.
- Religious marriage:
This is a form of wedding conducted according to the religion of the couple.
