Chapter4: The Present Perfect Tense

Definition

This tense expresses an action that started in the past and continues up to the present.

I have been here since morning.

You have worked for three hours. (You are still working)

It is also used to talk about experiences in our lives up till now.

For example: I have tasted beer.

It is also used to talk about actions in the past whose results can still be seen now.

For example: He has bought a new car. (He has a new car now.)

To form the present perfect tense, we use have/has plus the past participle of the main verb

For example: I have bathed. He has eaten.

Words like have and has that come before perfect tenses are sometimes called (helping or auxiliary verbs)
