Chapter 4: Data organization in the computer

D) DRIVES

A DRIVE IS A CONTAINER FOR FOLDERS AND FILES. Almost all computers come with atleast 2 drives;

  • A hard drive (which is used to store large volumes of data)
  • And a floppy drive (which store small volumes of data and can be easily transported from one computer to another

The hard drive is typically designated as C:\ drive, while the floppy drive is designated as A:\ drive.

The flash memory drive is usually termed REMOVABLE DRIVE such as USB keys. Microsoft windows organize folders and files in a hierarchical system whereby the Drive is the highest level of the hierarchy.
