A set is a collection of well defined objects by well defined objects. This means that we can know a set as soon as we know the objects that form it.
The objects that form a set are called elements or members of the set. We do write the set of elements in an open and closed bracket as ( ). For example we can write the set of factors of 16 as (1, 2, 4, 8, 16).
Example; list the element of each of the following sets;
- Prime numbers less than 20= (2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19)
- Even numbers less than 16= (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14)
- Multiples of 3 less than 15= (3, 6, 9, 12)
