Chapter 2: Measuring instruments

Measuring the volume of a solid

The volume of a simple, solid body is easy to measure because it has a simple, regular shape. To measure the volume of a simple, solid body, we use the formula

Volume=length X width X height

This mathematical statement, or formula, can be made even simpler for a cube, because all three of these are lengths. We could write

Volume= L x L x L

Measuring the volume of a liquid

The instrument you use to measure a volume will depend on the volume you need to measure.
