CHAPTER 4: PLEBISCITE

DEFINITION

It is a direct vote. During plebiscite, people vote to choose their leader directly. For example, a plebiscite was organized in British southern Cameroon on the 1st of October 1961 during which the southern Cameroonian were given two options which were;

“Do you wish to achieve independence by joining the independent federation of Nigeria? “

                             OR

“Do you wish to achieve independence by joining the independent republic of Cameroon?”
