INTRODUCTION
For the wish of sharing data and resources, network has been created. We have many types of network according to their sizes. We also have network architecture which is the description of a network.
2.1) NETWORK ARCHITECTURE
There are two types of architecture:
- Client server architecture
- Peer to peer architecture
2.1.1) Client-Server Machines
In the client server architecture, the application software and network software are all installed in one machine called server. The other machine called client have access to the servant through the network hardware before using that programmers.
2.1.2) Peer to Peer Machines
The peer to peer machines, the two machines can be simultaneously client.
2.2) CATEGORIES OF NETWORKS
There are three categories of network according to the size the network occupies. Hence we have:
- Local Area Network (LAN)
- Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
- Wide Area Network (WAN)
2.2.1) Local Area Network (LAN)
The Local Area Network (LAN) is the collection of computers and other network devices that are connected with close proximity. The Local Area Network (LAN) covered on area that includes a room, building and several buildings that are close together. These network devices can be collected using cables or wireless. Example: Cyber café, our computer laboratory.
2.2.2) Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
A Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) covered by an area of a large city or town. It can be many buildings apart of several kilometers. Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is private. Eg: Express union computer network, western union computer network.
2.2.3 Wide Area Network (WAN)
The Wide Area Network (WAN) connects computers that are widely separated in different countries.
