Chapter 3 THE INTERNET

Lesson 1: Historical Evolution of the Internet

Introduction

When two or more networks are connected they form an internet work. The term “internet” is the short form of the expression interconnecting networks. It is against computer network that is result from the global interconnection of millions of computers and related equipments based on TCP/IP.

Simple Description of the Internet

The internet contains vast information quantity that constantly change and expand.

It is used by many individuals, schools, companies, government, agencies etc.

Evolution of the Internet

The origin of the internet can be traced back to 1969 when the united states founded the advanced research project agency (ARPA) and a military department to build the robust, fault to learnt and distributed computer network. The need of a decentralized communication infrastructure. For the united states defense military during cold war period. So that the destruction central control unit of a part of a network that affects the entire network. ARPA uses lizard project to link 4 super computers as research facility access the country. ARPANET was the first succeed where by fault to learnt enable the entire network to survive if a part of the network was destroying or lost.

From its initials from nodes in 1969 arpanet grow to 37 nodes in 1972. By mid-1970’s arpa had evolve in communication protocol into TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol) and were using TCP/IP to connect other network to arpa net. Other network was inter connected and ARPA net became gradually refers as internet.

In 1983, the military function of ARPA NET split up and became MIL NET the national science foundation became on aggressive expansion of the internet.

Today thousands of countries and millions of persons are connected to the internet.
