There are many different separation methods and each is suit to a particular type of mixture.
- Simple distillation
- It is used to separate a liquid from its solution. The boiling point of the pure liquid in the mixture is usually lower than that of the mixture itself.
- The solution is heated in a distillation flask so that the liquid doesn’t evaporate.
- Vapour is passed out through a condenser to be cooled back to liquid form.
- The liquid (distillate) will be collected in a clean container.
- The solutes are left in the distillation flask.
