II. GENRES OR FORMS OF LITERATURE

There are 3 main genres of literature namely: Prose, Drama and poetry

  1. Prose: it is that form of creative Writing that deals with a long narrative. It is a straight forward narrative of a story. A prose text of less than 50 pages is called a short story and a prose text of more than 50 pages is called a Novel.

  • It is written in chapters
  • It is written in a narrative form
  • It is may have many idea

  1. Drama: It is that form of literature which is written to react. it is written in Arts and scenes it is written in a dialogue form or a conversational style.

  1. There are 3 types of drama; Comedy, tragedy and tragicomedy.
  1. Comedy: this is that type of drama with a happy ending. It may begin sadly and ends happily.
  2. Tragedy: that type of drama that ends sadly. It may begin happily but ends sadly.
  3. Tragicomedy: that type of drama that has a mixture of happiness and sadness. At the end, some characters are happy and others are sad.

  1. Poetry: It is that genre of literature which is written in verses and stanzas. Its lines are short and it has few characters or a speaker. It may also have a listener. It lines are written in rhyme schemes.

N.B: A person who writes a poem is called a poet.
