E- TEST FOR LIPIDS
  • Sudan III Test.

Sudan III tegant is red in colour, into 2cm3 of fat salt in a test tube, 5 drop of sudan III agents are added, and the misture shoken and aloud to settle. It would be observed that the fat droplets keep up the red sudan III dye and remain separated from water.

  • Osmic acid Test

The colour of osmic acid is brownish block; the procedure is the same as describe for sudan III above but the fat droplets keep up the brownish black colour of osmic acid dye for a positive test

  • Emulsion Test

Into 2cm3 of oil suspension in a test tube, 2cm3of ethanol is added and the mixture shaken until a clear solution is observed, 2cm3 of the clear solution is transfer into a clear dry test tube and 5 drops of water added and the mixture shaken. It becomes cloudy white indicating the presence of fats
