LECON II: POINTING DEVICES

Lecon 2

It refers to devices use to control the movement of the printer and selecting item on the screen e.g.mouse, touch pad, track ball.

 

 

I. AUTOMATIC INPUT DEVICES

 

It is the act of transmitting data and information into the computer that heavy involvement of the user or the operator. Data and instruction are being transmitted automatically.

 

A. Advantages

  • Good for large volume of task and time is going
  • It is very accurable for ttransmitting data instruction
  • It is more reliable
  • It is very fast in transmitting data instruction into the computer.

 

B. Disadvantages

  • They often result to health related problems
  • They are net nery accurate and often result to mistake
  • They are very fragile
  • They are very expensive to buy, install and maintain
  • They are responsible for high rate of unemployment

 

 

II. KEYBOARD

 

A keyboard is made up of bottoms and are tabelled with letters, numbers and other symbols according to the lay out. They are mainly 2 types of keyboard: QWERTY (English) and AZERTY (French)

 

A. Function of keyboard

  • It is use for typing letters, numbers, and other symbols
  • It is also used for sending instruction into the computer
  • Equally it is also used for programming the computer by pressing any of the function key tabled F1 to F5

 

B. Connection of the keyboard

The keyboard is connected to the system unit either to the USB port or the serial part.

 

1. Advantages

  • They are less expansive to buy
  • They are easy to manipulate
  • They are good for a small of task

2. Disadvantages

  • They are reliable to typing error
  • It often cause health related problems such as finger pains, wrist pain
  • Transcription errors resulting from wrong spelling
  • They are not fast in transmitting data and instruction

 

 

III. MOUSE

 

     A mouse is an input device and also a pointing device. It refers to any part of computer use to control the movement of printer and the selecting item on the screen. A mouse is identified on the screen by an arrow called pointer. When 50w the mouse, the pointer also moves indicating your present location

 

A. Function of the mouse

The mouse is made up of bottoms, these bottoms performs different function

  • Pointing: pointing  means you place the pointer over an item
  • Left button: this is the most important button and performs. Below are some function performs:

-clicking: means to press the left button once these action is used to selected items

-double click: it means press the left button rapidly twice in succession

-dragging: it means point over on item, hold down the left button and then move the mouse to a different question

  • Right button: it is use to invoke list of command that you can use
  • Rotating or scroll wheel: it is use to move electronic page upward or down ward to see information that a leading on the present window
  1. Track ball

It is the pointing device which resemble an move but with a large ball on top of it. When ball is spinned by a user finger, signal about the direct of the ball is send into the computer. It is good for the disable and the younger children.

       2.Touch screen

It is a pointing device that performs both inputs/output function

  • It contain sensor that detect the touch of the finger tip
  • Touch screen are commonly found on smart phones, restaurant, vibrabry etc…

        3.Graphic tablets

It is use to draw free hand shape. It is made up of a drawing background. It is use to  send audio data into a computer. It is connected to a system unit through a sound character. A sound card is a circuit board that provides port for attaching microphone or speaker to system unit. This card convert analog signal.
