LECON III: AUTOMATIC INPUT DEVICES

Cours

I. SENSORS

A sensor is an automatic input device that control monitor the set of compute control parameters . they are use for detect or mesure physical quantities like temperature, light, pressure, speed, etc.

Data logging: is a method of using computer to automatically connect data over a period of time without a need of human intervention,

Sensors

Function

  • temperature sensor

  • PH sensor

  • proximity sensor

  • light sensor

  • printer paper sensor
  • use for detecting how cold or hot it is
  • use to detect the degree of pollution of a river
  • use to detect how close to an object is
  • use to switch off or on street light when there is darkness or day light
  • use to detect paper in the printer tray

II. TYPES OF SENSORS

There are two main types of sensors namely

  1. Digital sensor

This time of sensor collect data in decreed form made of os and 1s (machine language). Such data are sent directly to the processing

  1. Analog sensor

It refers to sensor that collects data for continuous form that varies. This input data needs to be converted to a language that computer understand before processing.

  1. BAR CODE READER

Bar code is a set of parallel lines with different thickness made up of black and white spaces use to store coded information about item in the super market. A bar code contains a following information:

  • The manufactured date
  • The expiring of the product
  • The name of manufacturing country and company

Advantages

  • It is a fast method to collective data into a system to eliminate the possibility of human errors.

Disadvantages

  • Scratching of the bar code may give faults results.
  1. WEBCAM

This means web camera. It saves both input and output devices. It is use to send high images into your computer or web browser. It may also be define as a type of video camera or a type of computer set up that takes live image and send them to a web browser.
