LECON IV: MULTIMEDIA INPUT DEVICES

Multimedia means the representation of information in different forms such as text, image, sons, etc.

I. MIDI instrument

 

MIDI means musical instrument digital interface. It is a set or collection of holes that aloud computer and musical instrument to exchange information.

 

II. Video camera

 

It is use to detect motion image which can be send to the computer to editing and storage.

 

A.SPECIAL INPUT DEVICES

It refers to any devices or equipment modify or customize to improve the functionally capability of an individual. There are also known as adaptive or causative input devices.

 

B.THE PHYSICAL DISABLE

It refers to people who are either visual hearing or motto impared. Such people therefore cannot use the standard input devices use in our daily life to transmit data or view on the screen.

a.Visually impared

Visual impared people are those who have a total loss in vision, this group of people needs the following devices in order to use the computer:

  • Braille keyboard: it is a type of keyboard label with sensitive dots representive letters
  • Microphone: it is an input device use in voice recognition software.

C.  OUT PUT DEVICES

 

a.Braille printers

It is a type of printer use for printing letters in the form of dots

b.A loud speaker

It is an output use for display sounds and text read out for someone who cannot see it

c.Screen magnifier zoom

Most software application that allowed the user to zoom in or out of the work being display on the screen

d.Motor impared

It refers to people who have loss or limitation in muscles control including those who are paralyzed or lost of limb.

e.Foot mouse

Can be use to navigate through software and select items from the screen

f.Eye tapper

It is a camera mounted on the screen facing directly on the eyes of the user. The camera detects where the user is looking and monitors the movement made by the eye lid

g.Hearing impared

It refers to people who have loud ability to hear certain frequency or may have difficulties hearing at the frequency level

  • Install voice recognition software that translates voice audio input into text for them to see.

Disadvantage of voice recognition

  • This system need to learn how to recognize the user voice and the way the user pronounce words.

D. PROGRAMS TO FACILITATE EASIER COMPUTER ACCESSIBILITY

 

The accessibility option can be access: start menu-all programs-accessories-case of access

1.Magnifier

It is use to enhance part of the screen

2.On screen keyboard

It is use to inter text numbers by using any of the key

3.Narrator

It is use by user with visual impared. This program can read text display on monitor

4.Windows speech recognition

This program recognize certain spokenn word. It can also convert spoken words into text and enter it into document.
