There are seven processes that all living things must carry out, these processes are called life processes or characteristics of living things. They include;
- Movement: This is the ability of a living thing to displace all body or only some parts of the body from one place to another.
- Excretion: This is the sending out of waste products produced from cell activities. E.g. sweat, urine etc.
- Reproduction: It is the ability to produce young ones (or off springs) that have similar characteristics to their parents.
- Respiration: This is the breakdown of food to produce energy
N.B; BREATHING is the taking in of oxygen and sending out of carbon dioxide.
v. sensitivity: this is the ability to detect and respond to changes in our surrounding. E.g. pain, heat etc.
N.B; a stimulus is the reaction to change that occurs in our surrounding.
vi. Nutrition: All living things need to obtain food and use it to produce energy. Plants manufacture their food through the process of photosynthesis. Animals cannot produce their food so they feed on plants and other animals.
vii. Growth: this is the ability to increase in size.
