THE BRITISH REACTION TO THE TREATY
  • The British refused to recognized the Germano-Douala treaty.
  • They held meetings, with the local chiefs and  tried to persuade them to abandon the Germans.
  • Consult Hewett castigated the Douala rulers for having collected German bribe and betray Queen Victoria of Briatin.
  • The British redoubled their efforts limit areas of the German protectorates. The viice consul was sent with money and gifts to make treaties with the local chief.
  • The British proclaimed the annexation of Victoria in July 1884.
  • The British  assisted by two poles: Rogozinki and Janikowski launched a strong anti German campaign and concluded a number of treaties with the local chiefs from Bota to Rio Del Rey.
  • Hewett continued to summon and preside over court of equity establish by the British.
  • The British incited the native revolts especially in Hickory town.
