Chapter 4: GERMANN IMPERIAL 1885-1916 THE BERLIN WEST AFRICA CONFERENCE

Introduction

This was an international conference that was held in the German capital of Berlin on colonialism in Africa. It was convened by the German chancellor Otto Von Bismarck and assisted by the French Prime minister Jules Ferry. The conference that was held from November 1884 – February 1885 aimed at settling problems over temtones such as the Congo, Egypt, the Niger Basin etc. In attendance were representatives from European states except Switzerland and delegates come from U.S.A and ottoman empire. Even though the conference was summed to decide the state of Africans, no African was invited. The decision that were arrived at the conference were contained in what was called the Berlin act.
