When two or more computers are connected in such a way that they can communicate with one another, we refer to them as a COMPUTER NETWORK.

A person that computer is connected to the internet is said to be ONLINE.

• If all the interconnected computers are set up on a single table or desk, we call them a Desk Area Network (DAN).
• If all interconnected computers are located inside a single room, building or campus, we can call them Local Area Network (LAN)
• If the interconnected computers are however, distributed within a town or city in a particular state or region, we talk of a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN).
• If the interconnection involves a group of computers worldwide in different countries, this setup is called Wide Area Network (WAN).
