There are two main types;
- Terrestrial ecosystem:
These are ecosystem which are found on land e.g. forest, grassland, underground (under a stone or rock)
- Aquatic ecosystem:
These are ecosystems which are found in water. There are of two types;
- Fresh water ecosystem e.g. lake or pond
- Marine ecosystem e.g. seas
Each member in an ecosystem has a function, they are;
- Producers: they produce their own food e.g. plant
- Consumers: they feed on plant/grass and other organisms. They are:
- Herbivores; these are animals that feed on grass e.g. goat, sheep, cow etc
- Carnivores; these are animals that feed only on flesh e.g. lion
- Omnivores; these are animals that feed both on grass and flesh e.g. man
- Decomposers: they break down waste to produce nutrients that get back of the environment e.g. micro organisms
- Scavengers: these are animals that feed on dead plants and animals e.g. earth worms etc
