Chapter 5: Housefly (Musca domestica)

Feeding

Houseflies have mouths that are adapted for feeding on liquids. They have a tubular structure called Proboscis used for sucking liquid from fruit juices, water from meat and fish and other liquids. They also feed on over-ripe fruits and human faeces.

Houseflies are carriers of germs. They can feed on solid food by sending out saliva to dissolve the solid food which is then sucked.
