The governor is appointed as a senior civil servant. He is placed under the immediate authority of the minister of territorial administration (MINAT).
He represents the government and each of the ministries of the region.
He maintains peace, law and order in the region.
He collects information from all regional heads of service.
He ensures the implementation of economic and social development plan. He has the right to sanction civil servants in his region.
He reports directly to the president.
