  • The presence of strong Africans empires which were well organized to resiste European imperialism discouraged European eg; The Asian empire, the Mandika, the songa empire.
  • Some influential European statement were against colonialism, such as Otto Von Bismark.
  • Domestic problems in Europe weakened the rush for Africans eg; Italians and Germans were still fighting for their re-unification , France was still recovering from the French revolutionary war.
