CHAPTER 10 :THE FIRST WORLD WAR(1914-1918)

REMOTE CAUSE
  • The industrialization of Europe : By 1877 any countries had been touched by Britain, France, Germany and Russia. This increased the need for raw material and markets for manufactured goods weapons were produced and also drugs for sickness.
  • The failior of the Bismarckian Diplomacy : This policy failed when caisa William II died and was replaced by William II. He destroyed cury method that was use by Bismarck to isolate France and protect the German Nations.
  • The formation of Alliances : By 1914 europe had 2 armed camps the triple Alliance and triple entent with the aim of supporting each other in case of war.
  • Armes and Naval competitions : There was competition in the production of warships between Britain and France such as the Dreadnaught, guns and other kinds of weapons because of this weakers states were forced into alliances with stronger states. Militarism became common in Europe.
  • Marchinalism : Marchinalism was noticed in the Balkan penusula right up. Former members like Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria started declaring their independence it led to war that was localized and resolved by the great powers in London by 1912.
  • Jingoism : It was promoted by journalist who constantly gave streghtening propaganda about the military this made people to fear strength and promoted nationalism. Colonial rivary was common in Africa, far east and middle east. Most of the clashes that took place in Africa like in congo, Egypte, Sudan, Morrocco was as a result of the leave of large raw materials, markets for manufactured goods and prestige.         There was internation Anarchy because there was two international organization to handle disputes before the first world war. How ever the international court was able to solve disputes.
