Chapter 2: PERSONAL HYGIENE

MATERIAL USED IN MAKING CLOTHER

NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL OR SYNTHETIC

Advantages of synthetic material over natural material.

  • Synthesic material are harder and more durable then natural material
  • They are cheaper and easy to wash
  • They easily get dry and don’t shrink
  • They are more resistance to destruction by insects and chemical then natural materials
  • Dirts doesnot easily adhere to synthetic material

Disadvantages of synthetic material over natural material

  • They are very sensitive to heat and can meat at very high temperature

TYPES OF NATURAL MATERIAL

COTTON

This is a soft substances obtain from the seed on a cotton plant. It fibre are flat and twisted as such cotton trucks very little air these fibre are usually coven to produce cloth. Cotton is a good conductors of heat and a good material for warm weather. It absorb moisture quickly, dry quickly and produces a chilling effects. It main disadvantage is that it easily get burned. Nit main advantages is that less care is necessary to cotton material

WOOL

  • It obtain from a clipping wooley animal like sheep
  • It make up or table or fibres that are covered with a greasy substances so as to absorb water slowly and it looses water slowly
  • They is usually airspace between the mesh of wall and so wool is a poor conductor of heat.
  • Wool shrinks when washes and some time it harden

SILK

  • It made upn from a throad the cover the cocorn of the silk warm.
  • It is not a good conductor of heat as cotton by it better than wool.
  • It becomes wet easily because it absorb water slowly and can retain much water thus it not good for the production of under wear.

LEATHER

  • It made by turning the skin of animals such as shakes elephant
  • It good in cold weather because it acts is a wind buvial
  • It retains heat and as such it not suitable in hort climate
  • It is suitable for belts, bags, shoes, boxes etc

FUR

  • It a leather that the hair hasn’t been ion out . it consist of fibre which track large amount of air and their for it very warm and have insulating properties.

LINEN

  • It made up from the stem of a flux plant
  • The stems are put in water until the fibers seperater
  • It a better conductor of heat than cotton and can hold only small amount of moisture of water.
  • It a poor material for under wears because it doesn’t retain by very usefull for outer gaiment in hot weather
  • Linen is more expensive than cotton but it easy to wash since doesn’t easily pick up dirt and germs

NYLON

  • It is an artificial material which has similar properties with these silk
  • Nylon is very strong and durable it doesn’t shrink and it need little or no training.
  • It doesn’t absorb water and it dry very fast
  • It used in making dresses like skints, blouses, night wears etc.

PROPERTIES OF GOOD CLOTHING

  • It should be loose
  • It should be absorber plant
  • It should be durable
  • It should be light in weight
  • It should be clean and non poisonous or toxic
  • It should be sufficiently warm
  • It should be non tie in atting and shouldn’t catch fire easily

CARE FOR THE CLOTH

  • Wash the cloth regularly with clean water and soap
  • After washing makes sure you dry it on dry land or area
  • After you iron it
  • After you fold and put in a box
  • With paper care put camhar in the box
