Chapter 5 THERMOMETRY AND CALORIMETRY

THERMOMETRY

Is the measuring of law and moderate (roughly 500°C). The instrument use the measure temperature is the thermometer.

Thermometric Properties

Any property of the material which changes with change in temperature could be used as a thermometric property.

  1. The volume of a liquid increases with rise in temperature.
  2. The length of a wire increases with rise in temperature.
  3. The resistance of a wire increases with rise in temperature.
  4. The volume of an ideal gas increases with rise in temperature.

Quality of a Good             Thermometer

  • The thermometer must be accurate.
  • The thermometer must be sensitive.
  • The thermometer should be quick auctioning.
