Chapter 5 THERMOMETRY AND CALORIMETRY

TEMPERATURE SCALES
  1. The Celsius Scale

The lower fixed point corresponds to 0°C; meanwhile the upper fixed point corresponds to 100°C. The gap between the lower and upper fixed point is divided into 100 equal intervals.

  1. The Fahrenheit Scale

The lower fixed point corresponds to a temperature of 32 ° Fahrenheit; the upper fixed point corresponds to a temperature of 212 ° Fahrenheit. The gap between the lower and the upper fixed point is divided into 180 equal intervals.

  1. The Thermodynamic Scale (Kelvin Scale)

This scale has only one point called the triple point of water. This is the point at which ice, water and steam co-exist. The fixed point corresponds to a value of 273.16K.
