Chapter 5 THERMOMETRY AND CALORIMETRY

DEFINITION OF TERMS ASSOCIATED WITH TEMPERATURE
  • Ice Point

This is equilibrium temperature between ice and water at standard point. It has a value of 0°C.

  • Steam Point

This is equilibrium temperature between water and vapor at standard pressure. It has a value of 100°C.

  • Lower Fixed Point

This is a temperature with melting ice at standard atmosphere pressure.

  • Upper Fixed Point

This is a temperature of boiling at standard atmospheric pressure.

  • Absolute Zero

This is the lowest temperature at which particles no longer move. It has a value of -273K.
