CHAPTER 1 : LOGIC

1.1 DEFINITION AND NATURE OF LOGIC

Logic can be defined in one of the following ways:

  • Logic can be defined as the science of sound argumentation.
  • Logic is the science of the laws of thought that govern correct reasoning.
  • Logic is concerned with distinguishing correct reasoning from incorrect reasoning.

        As to the nature of logic, logic is a branch of philosophy. Etymologically, logic is derived from the greek word logos which mean ‘’ reasoned discourse’’. The Ancient Greek philosopher, Aristotle considered logic as an Organon. An instrument which permits one to attain the truth in any discourse.
