- An ideas or concept is a picture in the mind. It is an opinion about something that can be represented. E.g. do you have an idea of how a house looks like? Or do you have an idea of how a car looks like? They want to know from you if you have a picture of a house or a car in your mind. If you have them you will look for a word to represent a house or a car. That word is called a term.
- A term is a verbal expression of an idea or a reality or it is a word(s) used to express something or word (s) which can stand by itself as the subject or predicate of a proposition. Table, power, ugly, handsome, house, man, car, the principal, the minister of finance are examples of terms.
Talking about the structure of a term we have, Subject and predicate terms. In the statement: boys are thieves, ‘’boys’’ is the subject term and ‘’ thieves’’ is the predicate term. The subject term is that which we are talking about and the predicate term is a word(s) used to qualify the subject.
