CHAPTER 1 : THE U.P.C

REASON WHY THE PARTY WAS VERY HOSTILE TOWARD THE FRENCH COLONIAL ADMINISTRATION
  • Social political reasons
  • The French was not willing to grand immediate independence and full national to French Cameroon.
  • They party hated the French desire to rule Cameroon as an integral part of France.
  • The French were rolling Cameron as a French territory rather than as an Uno trusteeship agreement.
  • The French was sponsoring organisation against the U.P.C
  • The appointment ROLAND PREMIER as high commission in 1954 intensified the U.P.C rebellion
  • Economic reason
  1. European gained most of the job while the Africans were unemployed lived in misery which provoked the U.P.C revolt.
  2. The inability for the French to solve the unemployment influence the revolt.
  3. The U.P.C was against the friend economic exploitation of the territory.
  4. They immediate course of the revolt was the 100% increase of daily taxes paid by trackers in the market stalls in Yaoundé central market.
