REASON FOR THE CIVIL WAR BELGIAN MISTAKES OR POLICIES
  • The Belgians failed to encourage higher education. Hence the country lacked professional manpower or trained Africans to manage the country properly.
  • The mass withdrawal of Belgian experts.
  • The Belgians had exhausted the gold reserve.
  • The Belgians failed to train the Congolese well on parliamentary democracy.
  • The Belgians failed to reconcile Lumumba who wanted a unitary government and Kassavubu who wanted a federal system before independence.

  • Regionalism and tribalism
  • Absence of very strong national party
  • Most of the Congolese wealth especially mineral was found in Katanga.
  • Ideological differences
  • The politicians had made a lot of promises
