CHAPTER 2: FRENCH CAMEROON UNDER ANDRE MARIE NBIDA 1957-58

CONSEQUENCE OF THE FAIL OF MBIDA

-Hamadou Ahidjo leaders of the UC became the new prime minister in 18 February 1958

-The resignation of Mbida help to reinforce the unity of the Northem and Southern parties of French Cameroon because the Northern dropped the threat of secession acceleration of the move movement toward independence since Mbida was against immediate independence. Ahidjo enter the negotiation with the French and the UN leading to independence on 1st January 1960.

-It cemented the pact toward reunification of French and Britain southern Cameroon since Mbida had rejected Ahidjo negotiated with the KNDP of Foncha in Britain Southern Cameroon in 1960 and February 1961 southern Cameroon voted to join the Republic du Cameroon in the plebiscite.

-It led to peaceful solution to the U.P.C problem because Ahidjo offer conditional amnesty to the upeciste which was accepted by MAYI MATIP.
