IV. The case of Nigeria

In January 1966, military rule was established in Nigeria under General Ironsi, but he was overthrown in July 1966 by Colonel Gowon who was also overthrown in July 1975 by general Murtala mohammed. Unfortunately General Murtala was assassinated in February 1976, and Obassanjo ruled the country until October 1979, when the country was returned to civilian rule under shehu, shagari, he was overthrown in December 1983 by General buhari who was also overthrown in August 1985 by General Babaginda. Power was handed to an interim executive council headed by Ernest shonekam in august 1993 but was overthrown by General Sani abacha in November 1993. He died June 1998. General Abdulsalami abubakar ruled the country and handed to civilian rule in May 1999. The election was won by the former military ruler Olusegun Obassanjo. In May 2007 Musa Yar’Adua won the elections but died in May 2007 Musa yar’Aduawon the elections but died in May 2010, he was succeded by his vice, Good luck Jonathan.
