CHAPTER 3 : TRANSPORT IN PLANT

PATHWAY TAKEN BY WATER AND MINERALS SALT FROM SOIL TO THE LEAVES
  • Water enters the roots by diffusion and osmosis since the solution in the vacuole is more concentrated  than the surrounding water. Mineral salt are absorb by active transport.
  • This process help water to move from cell to cell, through the roots and upward to the steam to the xylem vessels.
  • These setup a root pressure(capillarity and transpiration pull wich causes water to move upward to higher branches and leaves.
  • A section falls or pressure is create by contant evaporation of water to the stomata of the leaf.
  • Roots pressure and sanction pressure are two important forces which contribute greatly to the upward movement of water in the xylem vessels.
  • Transpiration pull is assisted by force of cohesion
