GRAMMAIRE

LES QUANTIFIEURS

Les sont des termes qui renseignent sur la quantité, le nombre.

  1. SOME, ANY, NO

 

  • On utilise some devant les noms au pluriel et incomptables dans les phrases affirmatives:

   Ex: There is some oil in the cupboard.

  • On utilise any, dans les phrases négatives et interrogatives:

   Ex:  There isn’t any food left for you.

           Is there any milk left?

  • On utilise no dans les phrases à valeur de négation sans marque de négation car en lui-même, il désigne la négation.

 Ex: I have got no headache.

  • On peut utiliser no à la place de not any:

Ex: There aren’t any students in school today = there are no students in school today.

 

  1. TOO MUCH AND TOO MANY, HOW MUCH, HOW MANY

 

  • On utilise too many pour les mots comptables et les mots too much pour les incomptables.

Ex: There are too many people

    There is too much traffic.

  • On utilise how much devant les noms incomptables.

Ex: How much milk does he suck?

  • On utilise how many devant les noms comptables.

Ex: How many children are there in the class?

 

NB:     Too much, too many sont souvent utilisés comme des réponses aux questions posées avec how much et how many.

Ex: - How many bread is there?

  • Too much.

 

  1. A LOT, LOTS OF, PLENTY OF

 

  • On utilise a lot, lots of et plenty of pour les mots comptables et incomptables.

Ex: There is a lot of food.

       There are lots of cars

       He has got plenty of money

 

  1. A LITTLE, LITTLE, A FEW, FEW

 

  • On utilise a little, little pour les noms incomptables.

Ex: There is only a little milk left?

  • On utilise a few, few avec les noms comptables

Ex: There are a few people.

 

  1. ENOUGH AND TOO

 

  • On utilise enough avec les noms comptables et incomptables:

Ex:  She hasn’t got enough time/ eggs.

  • Après un adjective:

Ex: This car isn’t big enough for the family.

 

  • On utilise too avec many et much:

Ex: There are too many cars.

       He has got too much work.

  • Avant un adjectif:

Ex: The mountain is too high to climb.
