Chap2: Number patterns

Square and cube roots

Square roots

If “s” is a number and “e” is its equal factor, then we say “e” is square root of “s” and write

e = s

Cube roots

Note that 2*2*2=8. We note that 2 is the cube root of 8. Similarly, 3 is the cube root of 27. We denote the root of a number “n” by 3n = n1/3

Ex: find the cube root of the following

a) 349 = 43 = 64, b) 364 = 333 = 3
