Chap7: triangles

Corresponding, alternative, co-interior angles

Definition

Corresponding and alternative angles are equal angles. See the figure below

                                                                       ao         bo

                                                                 eo       fo

                          co           do

                        go         ho

Corresponding angles are a and c, b and d, e and g, f and h. Alternative angles are e and d, f and c.

Definition

Co-interior angles sum up to give 180o, ex: e and f, f and d

Ex: find all the angles marked in the following figure

                                                                       ao         60o

                                                                 eo       fo

                          co           do

                        go         ho

Solution: a + 60 = 180 (angles on a straight line), a = 120o

a + b = 180o, 120 + b = 180, b = 60o

60 + c = 180, c = 120o, a = c (corresponding angles)

g = 60o

b = e (corresponding angles) but b = 60o, then e = 60o

c = f (corresponding angles), f = 120o
