Chap6: coordinate geometry

Gradient of a line

From the graph below, the gradient of the straight line can be written as follows

                         Y2

                                                                                           B(x2, y2)

                     y1

                    A(x1, y1)

                          x1                                                x2

      Gradient = y2-y1x2-x1

Ex: find the gradient of the points (-1, 2) and (3, -4)

Solution: grad = y2-y1x2-x1 = -4-23--1 = -3/2
