Pie charts

A pie chart is a circle used to represent information. A complete circle is 360o, this is divided into portions with respect to the degrees.

Ex: Mr. Jong divided his money as follows;

Food = 60%   car allowance = 20%   rents = 10%    saving = 10%

Using a pie chart, illustrate the following information

Solution:

Sum of percentages = 60+20+10+10 = 100% = 360o

Food = 60/100 * 360 = 216o

Car allowance = 20/100 * 360 = 72o

Rents = 10/100 * 360 = 36o

Savings = 10/100 * 360 = 36o
